What Will Happen if I Travel to Scotland?

The Scottish Government has committed to pay for abortion care for women and pregnant people from Northern Ireland. If you are travelling from the Republic of Ireland you may need to pay for your termination.

Unfortunately in Scotland there is limited access to abortion services if you are not registered with a GP.

Chalmers Street Sexual Health Clinic in Edinburgh operates a walk-in clinic, and provides on-site medical terminations (the abortion pill). If you require a surgical termination they can refer you for care elsewhere. Most women and pregnant people in Scotland who require surgical abortions are sent to Manchester. You cannot make appointments at Chalmers Street in Advance, you must turn up to the walk-in clinic.

Women and pregnant people from the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, can access abortion services in Scotland but there is no guarantee of same day services.
